May Meeting @ The Training Center

May Meeting @ The Training Center

Our first monthly meeting using the name Business Friendly Organization was held at the Bensalem Training Center on Thursday, May 5th, 2022. Director of Public Safety Bill McVey was our guest speaker and Firefighter / Fire Inspector Michal Sekulski was our tour guide for the training center.

Bensalem Township is home to one of the state’s largest and most modern training facility.  The Public Safety Training Center allows firefighters, police officers and EMT/Paramedics from Bensalem the opportunity to conduct hands-on style training without leaving the township.  In addition, there is a 30-person classroom, ventilation roof prop, forcible entry door, vehicle extrication area and confined space area located at the training center. The training center is in a restricted area of Bensalem you cannot visit center without permission.

The training tower is a five-story building and has the following sections.
• Two story residential dwelling
• Shopping center store front
• Office building layout
• Hotel/motel layout
These sections were designed to provide our first responders with layouts they may come across while responding to emergency incidents within the township.

Bill has been a police officer since 1998 and been with the Bensalem Police Department from the start. He worked 7 of those years in the K-9 division of the police force, so it only made sense that he wanted us to see what the K-9 division of Bensalem Police can do.

As our members came out of this massive building with Big Mike, we got to watch Officer Sean Hayden fhayden@bensalempa.gov and Officer Bob Schwarting rschwarting@bensalempa.gov work with various dogs, including BOWIE, winner of “America’s Top Dog,” according to a contest on TV that rates K-9. I don’t think any of us cared about the top dog part. We were all so impressed by the officers and all the dogs and Bowie was amazing.

We got really lucky and had perfect weather that day. We had 27 attend the meeting with Peter from PB Adjusting flying his drone taking pictures and Kyle Ober Photographer taking pictures capturing everything.

Our organization is now going to be DBA as the Business Friendly Organization. You will start to see the changes on the web site and in times in our signs.

I did the Mayor’s Show last week and announced the change also on it.

We are still a 501c3 known as the Bensalem Business Directory. Just DBA us to make it easier to get more people to join us.

We are a friendly organization that welcomes people to join us for FREE to find out if they like us and if we are a good fit for them.

In that spirit please reach out the people who made time for us for the meeting and thank them for doing so.
